Rates of depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts are surging among U.S. teens, with nearly one in three girls seriously considering suicide and 13% having attempted it, according to a CDC report. Psychologists cite increased smartphone and social media use and pandemic-induced isolation as potential causes. Amid a nationwide shortage of mental health professionals, Jake Sussman, co-founder of mental health network Headway, aims to address the crisis through his new startup, Marble, which offers online group therapy for children in grades 5-12. Marble, partnering with school counselors and utilizing insurance, including Medicaid, to fund group sessions, has raised $5 million in seed funding and plans to expand beyond New York City. |
