Within the Atlas Obscura global community, we get to work with some incredible people who are doing really interesting things.

When we were developing our Wild Life line-up, we reached out to co-author of our upcoming Wild Life book, Cara Giaimo, to see if she wanted to take our travelers to see the hidden natural wonders of the world.  Her destination of choice? Galapagos.

For our existing South Africa trip we went to the Mother of Sharks, Melissa Cristina Márquez, to help us develop and host a safari focused on the Marine Big 5 (whales, dolphins, seals, penguins, and great white sharks).

If you’re an animal lover, these two expeditions with special guests are not to be missed.

Wild Galapagos: An Ecological Wonderland

The trip:  Track species that can’t be found anywhere else, from “Christmas” iguanas to curved beaked albatrosses.  All set against a bewitching archipelago that holds crystal clear waters and volcanic ridges.

Animal-spotting we’re most excited about:  The iguanas on Santiago Island (for the first time since the days of Darwin).

The trip:  Dive into the Marine Big 5 along the Cape before heading for the grassy savannahs of the Greater Kruger area of the African Bush.

Animal-spotting we’re most excited about:  Bull sharks who fall asleep the instant they’re flipped onto their backs…
